Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday confirmed that the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana will continue, bringing relief to women beneficiaries across Maharashtra. The announcement was made while presenting the state budget for the financial year 2026–27 in the Legislative Assembly. Over the past few days, uncertainty had grown regarding the future of the scheme, prompting widespread speculation among women across the state. Addressing these concerns, Fadnavis clarified that the government has made adequate financial provisions to ensure the scheme continues without interruption, assuring beneficiaries that the programme will remain in place going forward.

The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, introduced during the earlier tenure of the ruling Mahayuti government, has gained significant popularity among women in the state. Under the scheme, eligible women receive a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500. While confirming the continuation of the programme, Fadnavis did not announce any increase in the payout amount from the current Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100. The scheme has been widely appreciated by beneficiaries and has become an important welfare initiative aimed at supporting women financially through regular monthly assistance from the state government.

In recent months, questions had been raised about whether the scheme would continue, especially amid reports that it was placing a considerable financial burden on the state exchequer. There were also instances when the instalments were reportedly delayed, which further fuelled speculation about the future of the programme. However, the chief minister’s statement in the budget has now made it clear that the scheme will remain operational. By confirming its continuation, the government has reassured millions of women beneficiaries who depend on the monthly financial support provided through the initiative.

Along with confirming the continuation of the scheme, Fadnavis also announced that a new welfare policy for single women will be introduced soon. The government aims to extend the benefits of this upcoming initiative to nearly 25 lakh women across the state. He stated that sufficient budgetary allocation has been made to support the existing Ladki Bahin scheme as well as upcoming welfare measures. The announcement signals the government’s intention to continue focusing on programmes aimed at women’s welfare while maintaining the existing support provided through the Ladki Bahin scheme.
