Maharashtra Leopard Attack: 3 Injured While Working in Sugarcane Fields in Shahapur, Karad

A Leopard in Shahapur, located in the Karad taluka has injured three individuals in broad daylight. Among the injured is a young man who had gone to irrigate a sugarcane field. These incidents occurred on Saturday and Sunday. Police Patil Prashant Namdas and social activist Sandeep Babar provided details regarding these events. The incidents have created an atmosphere of fear among the local residents.

The injured individuals have been identified as Nikhil Maruti Wangade, Jaywant Baban Fasale, and Saurabh Shrikant Kadam. They are currently undergoing treatment at the Venutai Chavan Sub-District Hospital in Karad. According to reports, on Saturday March  28th between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM, Nikhil Maruti Wangade had gone to irrigate a sugarcane field.

Man was attacked by the leopard in the Khodaskar area. He sustained serious injuries in this attack. Subsequently, on Sunday morning around 10:15 AM, Jaywant Baban Fasale was suddenly attacked by the leopard in the 'Mal' area while he was irrigating sugarcane crops. Shortly thereafter, around 3:15 PM, Saurabh Shrikant Kadam was also suddenly attacked by the leopard while he was irrigating sugarcane.

The scene of the incidents indicated that a fierce struggle had ensued between the leopard and the respective youths. All three individuals sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical care at the Venutai Chavan Sub-District Hospital in Karad. Upon receiving information about the incidents, the Forest Department immediately initiated measures to capture the leopard. Under the guidance of Satara's Deputy Conservator of Forests, Amol Satpute, ACF Jayshree Jadhav—along with Forest Range Officers Lalita Patil, Suhas Bhosale, Subhash Gurav, Anand Jagtap, Rohan Mane, Sanika Ghadge, Pooja Khandagale, and Akshay Patil—rushed immediately to the scene and launched a rescue operation.

A cage has been installed in the vicinity. The leopard is being kept under close surveillance using CCTV and drone cameras.
