Maharashtra: Woman Arrested for Allegedly Strangling Alcoholic Husband to Death in Jalgaon

Jalgaon Crime: A man was allegedly strangled to death by his wife following repeated incidents of harassment and abuse while he was under the influence of alcohol, police said. The situation reportedly escalated during another altercation between the couple, leading to the fatal incident. Manisha Bharat Patil (50) has been charged with the murder of her husband, Bharat Namdev Patil, after she strangled him to death.

The incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Tuesday. Patil, who frequently harassed his wife while intoxicated, was initially believed to have died accidentally. However, a post-mortem revealed ligature marks on his neck, leading police to reclassify the case as murder and register it at the City Police Station. Bharat Patil resided with his wife and two children in the KC Park area, located on Kanalda Road. His wife worked at a textile shop, while both of their children were employed at a company within the MIDC industrial estate. Bharat Patil would regularly harass his wife and children while intoxicated.

On Tuesday night (May 5) at 9:00 PM, when Manisha Patil returned home from work, she found her husband sitting on the veranda, heavily intoxicated. At that moment, he once again picked an argument with his wife while under the influence of alcohol. A heated altercation ensued between the husband and wife. In a fit of rage, Manisha Patil used a rope to strangle her husband, Bharat Patil, and dragged him down from the bed. During this struggle, his head struck the floor, resulting in severe bleeding from his ears and nose. Immediately thereafter, a local youth from the neighborhood rushed Bharat Patil to the Government Medical College and Hospital.

Bharat Patil, an alcoholic who had previously sold his family's home amidst disputes, was found dead with ligature marks on his neck. Police suspected foul play, confirmed by an autopsy revealing strangulation as the cause of death. His wife, Manisha Patil, confessed to the murder, stating she was driven to it by his constant harassment and alcohol-fueled abuse. Initially recorded as an accidental death, the case is now being investigated as a murder.
