Ranjitsinh Disale who won the coveted Global Teacher prize and prize money of $1 million for his extensive work in the field of the girl child education has tested positive for Coronavirus. He is the first Indian to win the award and post his monumental win he had met many political leaders including MNS chief Raj Thackeray. Raj Thackeray and Ranjit Singh Disley discussed various issues in the field of education. After testing positive, Disale has asked to those who came in close contact with him to get tested for COVID-19. 

Disale started showing symptoms after he returned to his village after his Mumbai visit, his family members have however tested negative for the virus. After,  Disale was named the winner of the $1 million annual Global Teacher Prize 2020, the state Governor, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, on had  congratulated him.While announcing that he will be sharing 50 per cent of his prize money with his fellow finalists to support their 'incredible work', the primary school teacher said that the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed education and the communities it serves in multiple ways. 'But, in this hard time, teachers are giving their best to make sure every student has access to their birthright of a good education,' Disale added.
