Asha Bhosle Funeral: BMC, Mumbai Traffic Police Make Arrangements, Announce Road Closures and Parking Facilities near Shivaji Park
Authorities in Mumbai are preparing extensively for the final rites of legendary singer Asha Bhosle, scheduled to take place at 4 pm on April 13, Monday at the Shivaji Park Crematorium. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Mumbai Police are coordinating efforts to manage the expected turnout. Officials stated that arrangements are being made to handle large crowds, ensuring that fans and well-wishers can pay their respects in an orderly manner. If necessary, dedicated entry routes will be created to separate general visitors from VIPs and family members attending the ceremony.
Authorities Ensure Coordination
Vinayak Vispute, Assistant Commissioner of the G North ward, confirmed the venue and timing of the funeral, adding that preparations are underway to maintain smooth operations. Civic authorities revealed that they are drawing from past experiences of managing large gatherings during the funerals of prominent personalities such as Lata Mangeshkar and Ratan Tata. These references are helping officials plan crowd management and logistical coordination. The municipal body is working closely with the police to ensure law and order, while also making sure that essential civic services in the surrounding areas remain uninterrupted despite the anticipated surge in visitors.
Public Pays Tribute
Meanwhile, at the singer’s residence in Lower Parel, where her mortal remains were brought on Sunday evening, a steady stream of admirers gathered to offer their condolences. Locals paid tribute in a solemn atmosphere, reflecting on her immense contribution to Indian music. A nearby pan stall owner, Jagdeesh Chaurasiya, shared that her songs were a constant part of his daily life and emphasized the lasting impact she has had on generations of listeners across the country. Many echoed similar sentiments, stating that her legacy will continue to live on through her timeless melodies and unforgettable voice.

Traffic Measures Planned
To manage the situation effectively, authorities have outlined several logistical arrangements. Traffic diversions will be implemented by both regular and traffic police personnel to ease congestion in the area. While a large crowd is expected, officials assured that civic services will continue without disruption. Certain roads, including Swatantryaveer Savarkar Road, will face restricted access, while vehicle movement on Lady Jamshedji Road will be closely regulated. Parking will be available at Kohinoor Plaza Public Parking, although on-street parking will be prohibited, with existing residential parking arrangements remaining unaffected.
Public Advisory Issued
Helplines have also been issued for public assistance, including the municipal helpline (1916) and the Government of Maharashtra helpline (1070). Residents in the vicinity have been assured that their daily routines will not be significantly disrupted, with access to the Shivaji Park area remaining open for morning and late-night walkers as usual. Officials emphasized that all measures are aimed at ensuring a smooth and respectful farewell to one of India’s most celebrated musical icons while maintaining public convenience and safety across the locality.
