The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, has foiled two major drug smuggling attempts at Mumbai Airport and seized a total of 2.659 kg of cocaine worth approximately ₹13.29 crore in the illicit market. Two individuals have been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to DRI officials, acting on specific intelligence inputs, officers intercepted a female passenger arriving from Addis Ababa and recovered 1.575 kg of liquid cocaine valued at around ₹7.875 crore. During the examination of her baggage, officials found eight pouches containing the contraband substance.

In another operation, DRI officers intercepted an African male passenger upon his arrival at Mumbai Airport. During investigation, it was found that the passenger had ingested capsules containing cocaine. The individual later expelled a total of 70 capsules containing 1.084 kg of cocaine, estimated to be worth around ₹5.42 crore in the illegal market.

The seized narcotics have been confiscated under the NDPS Act, 1985, and both accused have been taken into custody.

Officials said further investigations are underway to identify and bust the larger drug trafficking network linked to the smuggling operations. DRI reiterated its commitment to intensifying action against narcotics trafficking and dismantling international drug syndicates operating in the country.
