Mumbai: 107 Flights Cancelled at CSMI Airport as West Asia Conflict Disrupts Operations

Flight services at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport witnessed major disruption on Tuesday, with 107 air traffic movements cancelled as tensions in West Asia continued to impact global aviation routes. The cancellations comprised 54 incoming and 53 outgoing flights on March 3, according to official data. The sudden suspension of services left hundreds of travellers stranded at the airport, many of whom expressed frustration over inadequate arrangements and basic amenities. Passengers reported confusion regarding revised schedules, while airport authorities worked to manage the situation amid uncertainty caused by ongoing geopolitical developments affecting international airspace.

Several affected travellers shared their ordeal while waiting for updates on their journeys. One passenger told ANI that he and his family were scheduled to travel for Umrah on March 1, but their flight was postponed due to the deteriorating conditions in the Middle East. He stated that the journey has now been rescheduled for later in the evening. Another traveller, who had arrived in Mumbai from Chapra for a flight to Dubai, said he learned late at night that his flight had been cancelled. Claiming there were no adequate facilities, he said he was forced to sleep on the airport floor and requested proper arrangements for food and accommodation.

The large number of cancellations in Mumbai reflects a broader wave of aviation disturbances across India following escalating hostilities in West Asia. Military actions involving Israel, the United States and Iran have resulted in the closure of significant airspace corridors, forcing airlines to alter routes or suspend services. Meanwhile, SpiceJet announced special flights from Fujairah to Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi to assist Indian nationals returning home, sharing the schedule on X. Travel firm EaseMyTrip also introduced charter services from Fujairah to Delhi and Mumbai. As one of India’s busiest international hubs with extensive Middle East connectivity, Mumbai Airport has been particularly impacted.
