Mumbai Accident: Toddler Dies After Being Hit by School Bus in Girgaon; Grandmother Seriously Injured

A tragic accident in the Khetwadi area of Girgaon on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a one-year-old toddler, while his grandmother sustained serious injuries after being hit by a school bus. The incident has sparked grief and shock among local residents.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 12:15 pm in front of the Nirmal Niketan building in Khetwadi. A school bus had stopped there to drop off students. Chandrakala Shivram Vyas (63), a resident of the area, had come to pick up her granddaughter from the bus, carrying her one-year-old grandson, Avir Vyas, in her arms.

After her granddaughter alighted from the bus, Chandrakala Vyas was crossing the road from the front of the bus when the driver allegedly moved the vehicle forward suddenly. The bus hit the woman and the child, causing them to suffer serious injuries.

Both were rushed to Reliance Hospital for immediate medical treatment. However, doctors declared the toddler, Avir Vyas, dead on arrival. Following the incident, a pall of gloom descended over the locality.

The school bus driver involved in the accident has been taken into custody by the police, and legal action is being initiated against him. Further investigation in the matter is being carried out by the Dr. D.B. Marg Police Station.
