Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway Traffic Update: Restrictions Imposed On NH-48 On Feb 28 & March 1 For Hind Di Chadar Event In Kharghar
Traffic restrictions have been announced on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway on February 28 and March 1 ahead of the Hind Di Chadar event. Hind Di Chadar is being celebrated in Khargar, Navi Mumbai. This event commemorates the 350th death anniversary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. Lakhs of Devotees are expected to attend the Shaheedi Diwas event being held at Ove Maidan in Kharghar on February 28 and March 1, 2026. The Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar Police Commissionerate has announced a ban on heavy and bulky vehicles, including six and ten-wheelers, to manage traffic during this two-day event. A notification confirming the traffic restrictions and sharing the alternate routes and other details has been issued by the authorities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several prominent leaders like Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, and Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to attend this event.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Tanaji Virkar stated that heavy vehicles will not be permitted to enter the area between 5 am and 9 pm on both days. Additionally, parking of heavy vehicles along the highway stretch will be strictly prohibited during this timeframe.
The curbs have been introduced to avoid major traffic snarls and to facilitate uninterrupted movement for devotees as well as daily commuters. Police have urged transporters and vehicle owners to carefully follow the revised traffic plan and extend full cooperation to ensure smooth implementation.
Alternate Routes Announced
On National Highway 48, heavy vehicles arriving from the Gujarat side will be stopped at Khaniwade Toll Naka. They will be rerouted via Manor Ten Naka towards Vasind and Nashik through Pali Wada Naka, Shirish Pada, Abitghar, Kambre, Piuli Kelhe and Dahagaon.
Vehicles coming from the Virar side will be halted at Shirsat Phata and diverted through Parol, Akloli Ganeshpuri and Ambadi.
Similarly, heavy vehicles approaching from the Vasai side will not be allowed beyond Chinchoti Naka and must instead take the Kaman–Kharbaun–Anjurphata route via Bhiwandi. Entry of heavy vehicles from the Mumbai and Kashmira sides of the Western Expressway towards Ghodbunder Road in Thane will also remain suspended.
Essential Services Exempt
Light motor vehicles, police and fire brigade units, oxygen gas tankers, green corridor vehicles and other essential service providers will be exempt from these restrictions.
Officials clarified that the traffic regulations are temporary and have been put in place solely to manage the expected influx of devotees and ensure commuter safety during the major religious gathering.
