The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Shri Harilal Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali West, Mumbai, which has remained shut for several years in the name of repairs and reconstruction, is yet to become operational. The hospital’s new building has now been completed and is fully equipped with modern facilities. However, residents claim that despite being ready to serve patients, the hospital has not been opened due to administrative negligence. Although inauguration dates are repeatedly announced, nothing happens on the ground. This has led angry residents of Borivali and Dahisar to question when the much-needed hospital will finally be opened.

Patients Facing Hardship: Double Burden of Cost and Time

Residents from Borivali and Dahisar are being forced to travel long distances for medical treatment. Since there is no nearby alternative public healthcare facility available, citizens have to depend on Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. Travelling to and from the hospital costs at least Rs 200, which has become a financial burden for many families. Locals say the continued delay in reopening the hospital is causing severe inconvenience, especially for senior citizens, emergency patients, and low-income families who rely heavily on affordable public healthcare services.

Demand for Immediate Opening of Hospital

Several residents have expressed concern that healthcare is a basic necessity, yet people are suffering because the project remains stuck in paperwork and administrative delays. Citizens have warned that if a patient loses their life due to this delay, the authorities must be held accountable. They have urged the civic administration to open the hospital immediately, failing which public anger may intensify further. “We have repeatedly contacted the concerned officials and demanded that the hospital be opened, but the administration has not responded. How many more years will patients from Dahisar continue to suffer this inconvenience?” asked local resident Ramakant Patil.
