A fire that erupted in the Powai Hills area of Mumbai has reportedly been burning for the last two days, sparking concern among residents who have shared videos of the blaze on social media. Locals claim that the flames have continued to spread across the hilly terrain without any visible intervention from civic authorities. The incident has raised fears among people living in nearby residential complexes, as the fire appears to be moving across large patches of dry vegetation. Residents from Powai and surrounding neighbourhoods said the flames and thick smoke were clearly visible from several parts of the locality, increasing worries about the potential threat to homes and the environment.
Social media users began posting visuals of the wildfire on X, urging authorities to take swift action to control the situation. Several posts tagging the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Mumbai Fire Brigade called for immediate intervention to prevent the blaze from spreading further. However, many netizens alleged that their complaints did not receive any response from the concerned departments. Frustrated residents continued sharing images and videos online, highlighting the scale of the fire and expressing concern about the possible danger it posed to nearby residential areas as well as the surrounding natural landscape.
One user posted on March 9 and alerted the civic body about a fire on the hill located behind the Hiranandani residential area in Powai. Another social media user also requested authorities to look into the matter urgently, stating that a fire had broken out in the forested patch and was gradually spreading. The user shared video clips showing burning vegetation and smoke rising from the hillside. These posts quickly drew attention from other residents who echoed similar concerns and demanded that officials take prompt steps to bring the fire under control before it escalates further.
In another post shared on March 10, a user questioned why the blaze had continued for almost 48 hours without being extinguished. The person also raised doubts about whether the fire could be connected to a permitted land-clearing activity in the area. According to the post, the fire appeared to be burning on the hill located behind Supreme Business Park. Videos circulating online show flames spreading through the dry bushes and trees, while thick plumes of smoke rise above the hillside, indicating that the fire may have engulfed a significant portion of the vegetation.
So far, authorities have not issued an official statement confirming the cause of the fire or the current status of the firefighting efforts. It is also unclear whether any operations have been carried out to fully extinguish the blaze. Residents have continued appealing to civic officials to take immediate steps to control the fire and stop it from spreading further. Many have also stressed the importance of protecting the environmentally sensitive hill region, warning that prolonged burning could cause serious damage to the local ecosystem and pose risks to nearby residential communities.
