A fire erupted at a scrap yard in Mankhurd on April 14, Tuesday morning, triggering a swift response from emergency services. The incident was reported around 8:15 am at an open ground along the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road in the Mandala area, where large quantities of scrap materials were stored. According to civic officials, the blaze was confined to a massive accumulation of oil cans, plastic waste, dry debris, and stacked wood spread across nearly 50 by 500 feet. Authorities from the civic disaster management unit reached the spot soon after the alert and began coordinating firefighting operations.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade classified the incident as a Level 1 (minor) fire shortly after it was reported, indicating that the situation, while concerning, was under control. Multiple firefighting resources were deployed to contain the flames, including four fire engines, five jumbo tankers, two aerial water tower tenders, a quick response vehicle, and an 108 ambulance stationed at the site as a precautionary measure. Thick smoke was seen rising from the area as firefighters worked continuously to prevent the blaze from spreading further to nearby locations.

Firefighting efforts were still underway as officials closely monitored the situation to ensure complete containment. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported so far, bringing some relief amid the incident. Authorities stated that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown and will be determined after a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, teams on the ground are focused on extinguishing the flames completely and cooling the affected area to avoid any chances of reignition.
