Maharashtra BJP MLA Girish Mahajan faced public anger after a woman confronted him over traffic congestion during a Bharatiya Janata Party protest in Mumbai’s Worli area on Tuesday, April 22, 2026. The BJP had organized a protest march against the Congress, starting from Worli’s Jambori Maidan and proceeding toward the Worli Dome. The march saw a significant turnout, but because it was held during peak evening hours, it led to severe traffic congestion in the area. Maharashtra minister was present at the march and was interacting with the media along the route. His engagement with reporters contributed to a complete blockade of the road, worsening the traffic situation.
Amid the chaos, a local woman confronted Mahajan and the police, expressing anger over the inconvenience caused. In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the woman is seen questioning the authorities.
“Get out of here. You are causing a traffic jam,” she said, questioning why the rally could not be held at a nearby open ground instead of disrupting vehicular movement.
As Mahajan attempted to calm the situation, the woman briefly walked away before returning and continuing her protest.
“Did you not understand? What is wrong with you? There are hundreds of people waiting,” she said, visibly upset. When a police official tried to intervene, she refused to engage and insisted that no one speak to her.
Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal criticized the BJP, using the viral video to attack the ruling party.
In a post on social media, Sapkal said the incident exposed the BJP’s “real face,” accusing the party of misleading women in the name of empowerment and using the reservation issue for political gain.
Former state Congress president Nana Patole also posted the video, saying the protest had caused hardship to ordinary citizens.
There was no immediate response from the BJP regarding the incident.
