A DNA report has revealed that a human finger fragment found in a butterscotch ice cream cone ordered online by Malad doctor Brendan Attix Ferro (26) belongs to Omkar Pote, assistant packing manager at Fortune Dairy, an ice cream manufacturer in Pune. Police may now take action against those associated with the Fortune Dairy ice cream factory.
On June 12, Dr. Brendan's sister Jessica in Malad ordered three cones of Yummo ice cream along with some other grocery items through Zepto, an online goods and services company. While eating the ice cream, she found a piece of finger with a nail stuck in it. The incident caused a stir. After Dr. Brendan's complaint, the Malad police registered a case against unknown accused under sections 272, 273, and 336 of the IPC and started an investigation.

When the police sent the piece found in the ice cream to the forensic lab for investigation, they discovered that it belonged to Omkar Pote, assistant packing manager at the Fortune Dairy factory in Indapur, Pune, which manufactures ice cream. Initial police investigation revealed that Pote's middle finger of his right hand had been severed in an accident while working at the factory.
The police sent DNA samples of Pote's blood and the finger fragment to the forensic laboratory for testing. The report confirmed that the finger fragment matched Pote's DNA. Police stated that further investigation is ongoing in the case.
Omkar Pote had joined the Fortune Dairy factory as an assistant packing manager in April. On the morning of May 11, while working in the packing department, an accident resulted in the upper part of his middle finger being severed. The incident caused a stir among the factory workers, who provided immediate medical treatment to Pote. However, the broken piece of his finger was not recovered.
