'Crush Narcotics Cartel': Mumbai NCB Seized Cocaine Worth Rs 1,745 Crore, Says Union Minister Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday, May 1, said the Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted a major international narcotics ring, seizing 349 kilograms of high-grade cocaine worth Rs 1,745 crore in Mumbai. Union Minister states that it is a good example of 'bottom to top' investigation.

Announcing the seizure of social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Shah said, "We are resolved to ruthlessly crush the narcotics cartel."

"The @narcoticsbureau has cracked down on a major international narcotics ring, seizing 349 kg of high-grade cocaine worth Rs 1,745 crore in Mumbai. This is a trailblazing example of a bottom-to-top approach where the agency traced back a smaller consignment to net a massive network. Congratulations to Team NCB for this monumental success," he said.

The seizure comes days after Salim Dola, a drug trafficker and aide of international terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, was brought to India from Turkiye.

Meanwhile, people who consume drugs and drive on public roads, or attend rave parties and return home late at night under the influence of drugs, will now face strict action from the police. For the first time in Maharashtra, police have decided to begin on-the-spot drug testing using state-of-the-art drug testing machines.

From Maharashtra Day onwards, Nagpur Police have started using these advanced machines on city roads. Soon, similar checks will be carried out not only in Nagpur but also in all major cities across the state. Along with roadside checks for drug consumption, police will also provide immediate test reports on the spot.
