A serious accident was narrowly avoided in Mumbai when an iron pillar from an under-construction bridge on Goregaon Link Road suddenly toppled onto a moving car. The vehicle suffered significant damage, but fortunately, all passengers managed to escape unharmed. The incident has sparked renewed concerns about safety protocols at construction sites across the city, highlighting potential lapses in monitoring and precautionary measures. Authorities are being urged to ensure stricter supervision and adherence to safety standards to prevent similar near-misses in the future. This event underscores the risks posed to commuters near ongoing infrastructure projects in Mumbai.

This comes just three days after a slab of Metro Line 4 collapsed, leading to the death of one man and injuring 4 others. A Metro Line 4 pillar collapsed onto moving vehicles in the Mulund West area of Mumbai. The incident took place on the busy Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg (LBS Road) at around 12:20 pm. The incident occurred near the Johnson & Johnson manufacturing facility, where construction work for a new Metro line is currently underway. Emergency services, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade and local police, reached the site immediately.  An auto driver and a woman were reported to be trapped under the debris of collpase slap of a pillar. The section of a cement Metro pillar that gave way during active construction, falling directly onto an auto-rickshaw and a car passing beneath the Mumbai Metro Line 4 bridge. The MFB official said around three to four passengers of the auto and a car sustained injuries in the incident.

One man lost his life in this incident. The family of Ramdhani Yadav, who lost his life after a section of a parapet wall collapsed at an under-construction Metro site, has declined to accept his mortal remains. The grieving relatives have demanded financial compensation and a government job for one of his daughters before taking custody of the body, reported FPJ. They demand that the relief package declared so far is insufficient to secure the future of the bereaved family, which has been left devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of its primary earning member.
