Mumbai: Man Arrested for Attempt to Murder Wife After Assault Over Minor Argument in Kandivali
The Charkop Police have arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder his wife by brutally assaulting her with kicks, punches and a mixer jar before fleeing the spot. The accused, identified as Vikas Chatursen Pahava, was arrested nearly a week after the incident and has been remanded to police custody by a court.
According to police, the shocking incident took place on April 30 at around 9 am at Sai Baba Society in Sector 9 of Charkop, Kandivali. The victim, Payal Vikas Pahava, lives in flat B/903 with her husband Vikas, son Yugam, and her in-laws Pushpa and Chaturasen Pahava. She works for a private company in Andheri.
Police said that on the day of the incident, a bag was lying near the kitchen area. When Payal asked her husband to pick it up, he allegedly became furious. In a fit of rage, Vikas reportedly abused her and started assaulting her with kicks and punches. Despite her attempts to stop him, he allegedly continued the attack.
During the assault, the accused allegedly picked up a mixer jar from the kitchen and struck her on the head, causing serious injuries. Even as the victim’s in-laws tried to intervene and stop him, he allegedly continued beating her.
Terrified, Payal rushed into a room and locked herself inside, after which the accused fled the house. She was later taken to Shatabdi Hospital for treatment, where she received eight stitches on her head.
Following the incident, the victim approached the Charkop Police Station along with her relatives and lodged a complaint. Based on her statement, police registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused.
After remaining absconding for several days, Vikas was finally traced and arrested from the Kandivali area on May 6. He was produced before the Borivali local court on Thursday afternoon, where the court remanded him to police custody.
The incident created panic and outrage among local residents, especially as the violent attack was allegedly triggered over a trivial issue involving a bag lying in the kitchen.
