Mumbai Mayor Wrist Watch Controversy: Ritu Tawde Slams Reports Claiming ₹1 Crore Rolex, Calls Viral Post Misleading

The BJP has regained control of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation after 44 years, hoisting its saffron flag by electing its own Mayor. Achieving what had eluded the party for decades, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis played a key role in securing the post. BJP leader Ritu Tawde has been elected as the Mayor, while Shinde Sena’s Sanjay Ghadigaonkar has taken charge as the Deputy Mayor. Tawde has been in the spotlight for her work and recent political developments, but she is now making headlines for a different reason. Recently, a post went viral on social media claiming that Ritu Tawde's watch is worth more than ₹1 crore. Taking to X, Ritu Tawde slammed the reports, calling them misleading.

A photograph of Mayor Ritu Tawde recently went viral on social media, with users focusing on the watch she was seen wearing. Several posts claimed that the watch was a luxury Rolex model worth crores of rupees. Some even alleged that it was a yellow gold Rolex Daytona with a light dial, estimating its retail price at ₹60–70 lakh and suggesting that its market value in India exceeded ₹1 crore. The claims quickly gained traction online, leading to trolling and criticism directed at the Mayor.

Responding to the controversy, Tawde took to her Twitter account to clarify the matter. She dismissed the viral claims as completely false and misleading. The Mayor stated that the watch she was wearing belongs to the brand Michael Kors and is not a Rolex Daytona. She further said that there was no question of the watch costing lakhs or crores and termed the rumours irresponsible and a deliberate attempt to defame her. Tawde asserted that she would not be affected by such false allegations and firmly rejected the claims circulating on social media.
