Mumbai Metro Line 3: B-5 Gate at Vidhan Bhavan Station Reopens After Budget Session
Commuters travelling through the Mumbai Metro Line 3 can now once again use the B-5 entry and exit gate at the Vidhan Bhavan Metro Station, which has been reopened for public access following the conclusion of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session. The gate had remained shut since February 23 as per directions issued by the Mumbai Police. Authorities had imposed the restriction due to heightened security concerns, considering the presence of senior political leaders, ministers, and officials in and around the legislative complex during the session period.
With the budget session now concluded, the temporary restrictions have been withdrawn, allowing normal operations to resume at the station. The reopening of the B-5 gate is expected to significantly ease commuter movement by distributing passenger flow more efficiently across multiple access points. Officials believe this step will help reduce overcrowding at other gates, especially during peak travel hours, thereby improving overall accessibility and convenience for daily passengers. The move is part of broader efforts to enhance commuter experience and ensure smoother transit operations in one of the city’s key administrative zones.
In a related development, the Aqua Line recently introduced a lift facility at the A2 gate of the Vidhan Bhavan Metro station, further improving accessibility infrastructure. As per an update shared on the official social media handle of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, the lift is now operational for both entry and exit. This addition is expected to greatly benefit senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and regular commuters, particularly during busy hours when navigating stairs and escalators can be challenging.
The A2 exit offers direct connectivity to prominent locations such as Manora MLA Hostel, also known as Navin Amadar Niwas, and the YB Chavan Centre, both of which experience consistent footfall throughout the day. By improving access at this point, authorities aim to streamline the dispersal of crowds and reduce pressure on other station exits. This upgrade complements ongoing efforts to make metro travel more inclusive and efficient for a diverse range of passengers.
Strategically positioned, the Vidhan Bhavan Metro station acts as a vital transit hub, linking commuters to several key landmarks in South Mumbai. These include the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan, Mittal Towers, the State Bank of India headquarters, Sachivalay Gymkhana, Cooperage Football Ground, and Free Press House. Its connectivity to these important destinations makes it a crucial node in the city’s public transport network, catering to office-goers, government officials, and visitors alike.
