Mumbai: Over 20 Illegal Bangladeshi Nationals Detained in Andheri During Overnight Raid
Mumbai Police have intensified their crackdown on foreign nationals residing illegally in the city, detaining more than 20 individuals in a targeted operation in Andheri West. The raid, conducted by the Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC) within the jurisdiction of the Versova Police Station, identified a group of Bangladeshi nationals allegedly living in India without valid travel or residency documents.
The operation follows a string of similar detentions across the suburbs, as authorities tighten security and documentation checks in high-density residential areas. Acting on precise intelligence, the ATC squad carried out a late-night sweep in the Versova area on Friday (February 13). Officers apprehended 21 individuals, including 18 transgender persons, two men, and one woman.

Preliminary investigations suggest the group travelled from Kolkata to Mumbai and had been residing in the city by evading immigration authorities. During the search, police seized documents that confirmed their Bangladeshi nationality, further establishing that they had entered the country via unauthorised channels.

This latest action comes just days after a separate operation on 8 February, where the Kurar Police detained four Bangladeshi nationals from the Pathanwadi area of Malad East. Those suspects reportedly admitted to their nationality during interrogation, citing a search for manual labour as their motivation for entering India illegally. With these combined operations, the number of illegal immigrants detained by Mumbai Police over the last week has surpassed 30.
