A drinking water pipeline burst in Mumbai's Bandra East area on Monday, February 9, resulting in the wastage of millions of litres of water. A video of the incident went viral on social media platforms, where water can be seen shooting as high as 50 feet in the sky, creating a fountain.

Motorists and residents at Bandra Reclamation witnessed a dramatic scene on Monday afternoon when a high-pressure water main ruptured. The force of the burst created a fountain that reached heights of 40 to 50 feet, flooding nearby roads and causing significant water loss.

Water Pipeline Burst in Bandra

The incident occurred just as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a scheduled 14-hour water cut for several areas in Mumbai suburbs from February 12 until February 1,3 approximately 30 hours of shutdown. The water cut is to facilitate urgent repairs on a separate leaking inlet pipeline.

The BMC has also proposed a separate, urgent repair operation on the 900 mm diameter inlet pipeline serving the Pali Hill Reservoir. This work is intended to fix a persistent leakage near the Qureshi Nagar slum in Bandra (West), located on an open MHADA plot adjacent to the Western Express Highway.

The combined impact of the burst and the planned maintenance is expected to severely disrupt water supplies across Bandra, Khar, and Santacruz.
