Mumbai Police on High Alert, Conducts Mock Drill Ahead of Eid and Gudi Padwa Following Nagpur Violence

Mumbai Police has increased security and is still on high alert in response to the recent deadly incidents in Nagpur. The MIDC police held a route march and mock drill in Marol Makhwan Nagar's sensitive neighbourhoods on March 22 in advance of the forthcoming holidays - Eid and Gudi Padwa. The riot control team conducted these exercises to make sure they were ready for any disruptions to law and order.

According to an ABP News report, MIDC and Andheri police stations actively participated in the simulation, which was conducted in Andheri East, which is considered one of the sensitive zones of Mumbai. Approximately 60 to 70 police officers and firefighters participated in the drill. Simulating a real-time emergency response to deal with a scenario like the violence in Nagpur was the aim of the exercise. To adequately handle any possible disturbance, the police rehearsed fast deployment and containment tactics.

As Ramadan, Gudi Padwa, and Navratri draw near, officials worry that tensions may rise in some areas once more. To keep peace and order in sensitive places, more police officers have been stationed in case there are any disruptions.

In the meantime, four sections of Nagpur, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Kotwali, and Yashodhara Nagar are still under curfew for the sixth day in a row. Authorities have, however, agreed to a brief reprieve from 7 to 10 PM, after which all movement restrictions will return in those areas.

However, in five other police station limits—Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Lakadganj, Sakkardara, and Imamwada—curfew has been entirely lifted. Furthermore, limitations had previously been lifted in two other police station zones.

According to the Nagpur Police Commissioner's orders, all public and private institutions are closed in the areas covered by the curfew. To stop the violence from getting worse, law enforcement organisations are nevertheless keeping a careful eye on the situation.
