Mumbai Rains: IndiGo Warns of Flight Delays, Advises Extra Travel Time to Airport as Heavy Showers Hit the City
Mumbai has been experiencing heavy rains since August 25 morning, and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the next two days. Heavy rains have caused waterlogging in several areas of Mumbai, including Sion’s Gandhi Market and the Eastern Express Highway. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, more heavy showers are expected on August 26 and 27. Authorities have advised commuters to travel accordingly, as there is expected to be a lot of road congestion, and the low-lying areas of the city are expected to witness floods.
Railway services are currently running smoothly, but waterlogging can lead to delays and worsen along the tracks. Rains have also affected the operations of the Mumbai Airport. Indigo Airlines has reported minor flight delays due to continuous rain. The airline has advised passengers to check the status of their flight before travelling and to keep the traffic congestion in mind before leaving for the airport. The airline posted on X, "Travel Advisory Continuous rainfall in #Mumbai is currently affecting air traffic, causing minor delays in flight operations. Our teams are working closely with air traffic control and will get you moving as soon as conditions allow. Before heading to the airport, please check your flight status on our website or app. Also, do allow some extra travel time, roads are likely to be slow-moving. Thank you for your understanding and patience."
