Mumbai Road Tragedy: Ghatkopar Man Dies 10 Days After Minor-Driven SUV Collision; Wife Still Critical
In a tragic turn of events, 33-year-old Ghatkopar resident Dhrumil Premji Patel, who was critically injured in a road accident in Vidyavihar on February 5, succumbed to his injuries after battling for life for 10 days. He was on ventilator support throughout his treatment. His wife, Meenal Patel, who was also seriously injured in the accident, continues to remain in critical condition.
According to police, the couple was returning home on their scooter late on the night of February 5 when a speeding SUV coming from the opposite direction rammed into their vehicle near Somaiya College on Tansa Pipeline Road in Vidyavihar. The impact was so severe that both were thrown onto the road, sustaining grievous injuries.
They were initially rushed to Rajawadi Hospital for primary treatment and were later shifted to a private hospital in Ghatkopar after their condition deteriorated. Dhrumil was undergoing treatment at Zynova Shalby Hospital, where he remained on ventilator support. He passed away on Sunday.
Family members stated that Meenal Patel has undergone multiple surgeries, including procedures on her arms, legs and pelvic bone. A team of doctors is closely monitoring her condition, which remains critical.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the SUV was allegedly being driven by a 17-year-old minor. The Tilak Nagar Police Station has registered a case against the minor’s 43-year-old father, Valji Raja Bhushan, under Sections 184 and 199 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Additionally, Sections 125, 125(A), 125(B), and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) have been invoked.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
