Mumbai: A disturbing incident reported in South Mumbai which has triggered a debate over the civic responsibility and public empathy, after a resident alleged that several taxis refused assistance during a medical emergency.  According to a post on X, the incident took place on April 2 at around 7:32 pm near the AC Market signal in Tardeo. The resident claimed that despite the urgency, multiple taxi drivers refused to take a family member in need of immediate medical attention, forcing them into a distressing 45-minute wait.

Describing the experience as “pure indifference,” the user questioned whether such behavior has become increasingly common in Mumbai. Taking note of the complaint, Mumbai Traffic Police said the matter has been forwarded to the Tardeo Traffic Division for further action. However, the complainant expressed dissatisfaction, stating that this was not an isolated case. They also alleged that previous complaints to the Regional Transport Office had failed to result in any concrete action.

“If taxis cannot help during a medical emergency, then what is the point?” the user wrote, echoing the frustration felt by many commuters. Another user wrote, "This wasn't normal before, but now this is becoming big nuisance. Auto-rickshaw & cabs refuse rides at their whims & fancies & even traffic police can't help. Previously they didn't dare to deny any ride."
