Mumbai Traffic Update: Advisory Issued Around Wankhede Stadium Ahead of India vs England T20 Semi-Final

With the high-voltage T20 semi-final between the India national cricket team and the England cricket team scheduled for Thursday evening at Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Traffic Police has released a detailed traffic advisory for the surrounding areas. Officials have cautioned that the heavy turnout expected for the match could lead to significant congestion, particularly along the Marine Drive stretch and nearby roads. The match is set to commence at 7 pm, while entry gates for spectators will open at 4 pm. In a message shared on the social media platform X, authorities urged commuters to prepare their travel plans early and consider alternative routes to avoid delays during peak movement hours.

To ease pressure on city roads, police have recommended that spectators rely on public transport systems while travelling to the stadium. Fans have been advised to use the Western Railway suburban network and disembark at Churchgate railway station or Marine Lines railway station, both of which provide convenient access to the venue. Alternatively, spectators can also travel via Mumbai Metro Line 3 and get down at Churchgate Metro Station before walking to the stadium. Authorities stated that greater use of trains and the metro will help reduce vehicular traffic near the stadium precinct and ensure smoother crowd movement around the area on match day.

In order to manage the expected surge of spectators efficiently, the police have also issued a gate-specific travel guideline for fans arriving at the stadium. Those holding tickets for Gates 1, 2, and 7 are advised to arrive via Churchgate Railway Station or Churchgate Metro Station and proceed towards the stadium through E Road. Spectators entering through Gates 3 and 4 can reach the venue by crossing the foot overbridge at Marine Lines railway station near the Roopkala showroom on Maharshi Karve Road. Fans heading to Gates 5 and 6 should approach through the foot overbridge opposite the Income Tax Office on Maharshi Karve Road after arriving at Churchgate station or the nearby metro stop. Police officials appealed for public cooperation to ensure traffic remains orderly. The team winning Thursday’s contest will face New Zealand national cricket team in Sunday’s final.
