In a shocking incident in Kandivali’s Charkop area, two men allegedly assaulted two on-duty traffic policemen and made threatening remarks, saying, "If you weren’t in uniform, we would have buried you here." The altercation reportedly began after the traffic cops attempted to penalise the duo for violating traffic rules.

The Charkop police have registered a case against both the accused for assaulting public servants and threatening to kill them. One of the accused, identified as Shivanand Harishchandra Chauhan, has been arrested, while his accomplice Pravin Chauhan managed to flee the spot and is currently absconding.

According to police sources, Constable Mandar Jadhav, who resides in Sector 8, Charkop, Kandivali, is currently posted with the Kandivali Traffic Division. On Thursday around 2:30 PM, he was on duty near Ganesh Chowk, Sector 6, close to the Ambamata Mandir in Charkop, along with his colleague Patil.

While enforcing traffic rules at the location, the officers stopped Shivanand and Pravin, who were riding a scooter and allegedly violating traffic regulations. The situation escalated when the duo reacted angrily to the police action. In a fit of rage, they reportedly attacked Constable Jadhav with a scooter key, causing injuries. The accused also abused the officers and made derogatory remarks about their uniform, thereby obstructing them in the discharge of their official duties.

Upon receiving information, a team from Charkop Police Station rushed to the spot. While Pravin managed to escape, Shivanand was taken into custody and brought to the police station. He has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and was produced before a local court in Borivali on Friday, which remanded him to police custody.

Search operations are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused, Pravin Chauhan.
