The deaths of four members of a family in the Paydhuni area of Mumbai have raised concerns and shocked people in the city. After the death of a family member, messages and videos are circulating online arguing not to consume watermelon after dinner. Some messages suggest not eating watermelon for some days.
The initial investigation into the deaths of the Paydhuni family members showed the signs of suspected food poisoning as a possible cause. All four reportedly fell ill after consuming food at home and later watermelon late at night. The deceased have been identified as Abdullah Dokadia, his wife Nasreen Dokadia, and their daughters Ayesha and Zainab Dokadia.
According to police, nine members of the Dokadia family had dinner with their relatives at around 10:30 pm on Saturday, April 25, after which relatives returned to their respective homes. Later, between 1:00 am and 1:30 am, the four family members consumed watermelon. At around 5:30 am to 6:00 am, their condition suddenly deteriorated. They were immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead, reported News18 Hindi.
Police said a family member informed them that the victims had eaten biryani for dinner and watermelon later in the night. By the early hours of April 26, all four suffered from intense vomiting and dizziness. They were rushed to JJ Hospital, but tragically, none survived. The father, Abdullah, was the last to succumb to his condition late Sunday night.

A preliminary post-mortem report accessed by News18 Hindi has revealed that all four suffered severe kidney damage, possibly due to food poisoning.
However, this is not the real cause of deaths and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause. Viscera samples have been sent for examination, and officials said the final cause of death will be confirmed after the histopathological report is received.
