A Mumbai-based woman has become the centre of attention on social media after sharing that she resigned from her job following an alleged public confrontation with her manager over overtime pay. Dhrupadi, who worked as a vocal coach at a music ed-tech firm, said she had dedicated more than two years to training students and earning recognition within the organisation. According to her, tensions began after she requested payment for hours worked beyond her official schedule. She alleged that instead of addressing the issue professionally in private, her boss shouted at her in front of several people, leaving her embarrassed and deeply upset by the incident.

The controversy gained traction after a video uploaded on Instagram went viral online. In the clip, a man believed to be her manager is heard insisting that employees must comply with his rules and stating that anyone unhappy with them was free to leave the organisation. Dhrupadi later confirmed that she eventually resigned from the company, stressing that the move was carefully considered rather than emotional or sudden. She explained that before stepping down, she had raised the matter internally and sought accountability as well as an apology, but felt her concerns regarding workplace behaviour and professionalism were not properly addressed by the management.

She captioned her reel on Instagram, "low pay? survivable. disrespect? nope. good luck to them finding my replacement though 🤍 I think one of the biggest reasons Gen Z creators are growing so rapidly right now is because people are exhausted by performative perfection. Audiences don’t just want polished content anymore. They want honesty, personality, opinions, and humanity. And honestly, I’m proud to belong to a generation that is becoming less afraid to stand up for its boundaries publicly. After working for 2 years and 7 months in a company and maintaining a strong reputation in my role, I asked for compensation for extra hours being put into work beyond my official schedule. The response I received was being shouted at publicly in front of hundreds of people. I raised concerns professionally and sought accountability and a formal apology. When that didn’t happen, I chose to resign. And honestly? I’m glad I did. Because I think creators, artists, and public-facing people should be authentic not just aesthetically, but personally too. This generation is not perfect. But we are becoming less willing to trade dignity for approval. And maybe that change was needed."

Speaking further about the matter, Dhrupadi said the experience reflected a much broader issue involving respect, communication and dignity at workplaces, particularly for young professionals. Her post quickly drew thousands of views, with social media users debating toxic work environments, unpaid overtime and employee rights in India. Several people supported her decision to leave, praising her for refusing to accept disrespectful treatment. One user remarked that unless stricter laws are introduced against unpaid overtime, skilled workers will continue moving abroad for better opportunities. Another wrote that she should feel proud for standing up for herself, while a third commented that she had not resigned, but had “promoted herself” out of a toxic workplace.
