Collector issues order to regulate sale of Remdesivir

Finally, the district administration has issued an order to stop OTC sale of Remdesivir injections and regulate the same, so that there should not be any shortage of the injections for needy patients.

Lokmat Times had publised a report titled ‘Rampant use of Remdesivir leading to shortage of vials’ in the Monday, April 5 edition.

Taking cognizance of the report the district collector and president of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Ravindra Thakare using powers under section 2, 3 and 4 of Epidemic Control Act-1897, Maharashtra Covid-19 Rules-2019 and Disaster Management Act-2005, and to ensure uninteruptted supply of Remdesivir to hospitals and to keep a tab on the stockist and suppliers of Remdesivir has appointed sub-divsional officer Nagpur (City) Shekhar Ghadge and joint commissioner, Food and Drugs Administration, Nagpur division Pushphas Ballal.

Both the appointed officers will keep a track of Remdesivir manufacturing companies and stockist and supplier to ensure availablity of the injection and that there is no shortage.

With this order the district administration has banned the direct sale of Remdesivir from pharmacies and now it will only be supplied to Covid hospitals and pharmacies attached to Covid hospitals.
