Nagpur, June 18

Work on the third phase of cement road in the city has been started in various parts of the city. Good asphalt roads have been dug up for this purpose. But most of the work on the cement road has stalled since last year, while work in some places has been going on at snail pace.

Excavation of roads and partial constructed cement roads has created a risk of water logging in the surrounding areas. Work on one side of the road is underway due to the cement road work. In some places, traffic has been diverted, increasing the risk of accidents.

Under the third phase of `300 crore cement concrete roads, work of 39 roads worth `187 crore was started. But many of these roads are incomplete.

The cement road next to Siddheshwar Hall on Manewada Road has been incomplete since last year. Due to this, the citizens of the area have to take detour, if it rains heavily. There is a risk of water entering houses in the adjoining areas. The cement concrete road between Orange City Hospital and Khamla Road is still incomplete. The work from Bhimchowk to Ring Road has also not been completed. Mokshadham to Imamwada, road in front of Isolation Hospital, VIP Road, near Central Mall, Rajkamal Square, road near Siddheshwar Hall, Chikhli Layout cement road are not done.

The work of Dipti Singal to Bharatwada Cement Road is almost complete. But there is a risk of an accident as the work at the intersection is incomplete. The situation is similar in other parts of the city.

Work slow due to lack of funds

The state government, NIT and NMC have a share of `100 crore each in the construction of the third phase of cement roads. Out of this, 39 road works worth `187 crore were started. The state government and NIT each provided `62.50 crore and `125 crore respectively. `100 crore has to be given to by NMC, but due to the financial crunch, NMC is unable to make the funds available. NMC has been engaged in corona control for over a year, some works were stalled due to lack of labour.
