A user tweeted: "#Equality, #Liberty, #Justice & #Fraternity are the four principles enshrined in our #Constitution. As we celebrate our 71st #RepublicDay, let's pledge to uphold and live by these principles. Wishing my fellow #Ind a very happy #RepublicDay2020. #JaiHind!!!"

On this day in 1950, India solidified its sovereignty by putting into effect the Constitution of India, that took nearly three years of careful deliberation to finalise.

The first Republic Day was commemorated with a grand parade at the Rajpath, a tradition that continues.

A user tweeted: "Be proud that you are an Indian because blessed are those who are born in this great country. Happy Republic Day 2020!"

Another wrote: "Let us all strive to lift our Beloved Republic beyond distinctions of caste, creed, race, or religion. Let us create a Bharat all of us will be proud of. Bharat should be in our breath."

"Wishing everyone a Happy #RepublicDay. Let's cherish & celebrate the day when the Constitution came into force and let's pay tribute to all the freedom fighters just because of whom it was possible," read one post.

A Tweeple remarked: "#RepublicDay2020 wishes to all. For all my fellow Ind, it is an occasion to rededicate ourselves to service of the nation and uphold Democratic values."
