Ahead of bifurcation, J&K women and child rights panel wound up

Ahead of its formal bifurcation into two Union Territories on October 31, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday wound up the State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights.

"Consequent upon repeal of the Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Protection of Women & Child Rights Act, 2018 by the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, sanction is hereby accorded to the winding up of Jammu & Kashmir State Commission for Protection of Women & Child Rights with effect from 31-10-2019 i.e. the appointed date for the formation of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh," said the government order.

It also ordered that the Chairperson of the women and child rights panel shall cease to hold office from October 31. It said all the staff drawn from various departments, according to a list provided, would report to the concerned administrative departments by October 30.

It said the staff posted or deployed in the women and child rights panel by the general administration department drawn from various corporations/PSUs/organisations would be repatriated to their respective corporations/PSUs/organisations with immediate effect.

It directed that the Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights, would handover building(s) housing the commission along with furniture and electronic gadgets to the Director Estates, J&K Government.

It also directed the Secretary to transfer all records pertaining to the commission to the Social Welfare Department.

The order was signed by Farooq Ahmad Lone, IAS, Secretary to the J&K government.
