Bengaluru Shocker: 22-Year-Old Woman Dies by Suicide After Alleged Harassment and Forced Prostitution by Husband’s Family

A 22-year-old woman from Karnataka’s Bidar district allegedly died by suicide after facing sustained harassment and abuse within her marital home. The deceased, identified as Anjanabai Shekhar Patil, hailed from Bhalki and was married to Shekhar Patil of Basavakalyan in 2022. The couple had an 11-month-old infant. The incident reportedly took place at the Patil family residence in Om Colony, Basavakalyan, where Anjanabai was found hanging inside the house. The death has brought disturbing allegations of domestic violence and exploitation to the fore, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragedy.

According to police, a case was registered following a complaint by Anjanabai’s father, Vijaykumar, who alleged that his daughter was subjected to daily mental and physical harassment by her husband and in-laws. He claimed that she was repeatedly pressured into prostitution and faced severe abuse when she refused to comply. The complaint further stated that Anjanabai was assaulted for resisting forced illicit relationships, leading to intense psychological trauma. Family members alleged that the prolonged cruelty and humiliation left her mentally shattered, ultimately pushing her to take the extreme step inside her marital home.
