Bomb Threat in Kolkata: Bankshall Court and Other District Courts Receive Threatening Emails

Bankshall Court in Kolkata received an email threatening to blow up the premises, reported IANS on Tuesday, February 24. After receiving the alert, police informed the bomb squad and reached the spot.

A police team, along with the bomb squad and firefighters, launched search and rescue operations. The building was evacuated, and a thorough search of the court premises was conducted. No explosive device has been found so far, and the security operation remains ongoing. A similar threatening email was also sent to Kolkata Bichar Bhavan and the district courts of Baharampur, Asansol, and Chunchura.

According to police, the email claimed that RDSHX explosives had been planted inside the court premises and would be detonated at 1 pm. It also instructed that the courtroom and premises be evacuated to avoid loss of life.

Security was tightened at the City and Sessions Courts, Bankshall Court and the City Civil Court in Kolkata. Court work was temporarily suspended and judges, lawyers and staff were evacuated to safety. Alerts were also issued at the court premises in Berhampur, Asansol and Chunchura.
