CAA: Section-144 imposed in North East Delhi after violence in Seelampur

Section-144 was imposed in the North-East Delhi district on Wednesday after violence broke out during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Seelampur-Jafrabad area on Tuesday. The Police registered a total of three FIRs in connection with the violence. Police also arrested six people in this case. An FIR has been registered regarding the stone pelting incident in Brajpuri. Reports say that there were people in protests who had criminal records who instigated the violence.

After the protest turned violent in Jamia over the Citizenship Amendment Act on Tuesday, tension spilled over in East Delhi's Seelampur area. Around 2,000 people had gathered to protest against the citizenship law. The mob pelted stones between Seelampur Tea Point to Jafrabad Tea Point. During the protest the police station was also set on fire by the protesters who also vandalized many buses. Many police personnel were injured in the violence. Rapid Action Force has been deployed in the entire area. After the uproar, the entry and exit gates of the Welcome, Jafrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur metro stations were closed. 

A rally was taken out in Seelampur area of ​​northeast Delhi against the amended citizenship law on Tuesday, during which locals threw stones at the police. Police resorted to fire tear gas to disperse violent mob. In this regard, a senior police officer said that people gathered at Seelampur Tea Point and protests started at around 12 noon. The protesters raised slogans in against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizenser (NRC) and the government.
