Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the Delhi government,  has decided to impose a stricter lockdown this time, as metro services will also be suspended. Earlier, the traders' associations across the national capital demanded an extension of Delhi lockdown till May 17. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on May 1 had announced an extension of the ongoing lockdown in the national capital by another week till May 10.

The traders' associations had written to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday regarding this and suggesting an extension of the lockdown till May 17. CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said the people were suffering due to a lack of medical facilities. Delhi reported 17,364 new Covid-19 infections and 332 deaths in the last 24 hours on Saturday, according to the health bulletin. In the last six days, the Capital reported less than 20,000 new infections in 24 hours for fifth straight day. On Friday, however, Arvind Kejriwal said the city's oxygen crisis has been resolved. "Now there is no lack of oxygen in Delhi. We should have enough oxygen beds so that no patient is deprived," he said.
