Delhi Coaching Centre Incident: MCD Seals 29 Basements of Institutes Following Deaths of 3 UPSC Aspirants

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed seven additional coaching centre basements in Central Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar, along with one basement each in North West Delhi's Rajdhani Enclave and East Delhi's Preet Vihar. This action follows the tragic death of three UPSC aspirants in the basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle. Since Sunday, the MCD has shut down a total of 29 basements across coaching institutes for allegedly breaching building by-laws.

According to an official statement, the coaching centres that faced action in Rajinder Nagar on Tuesday include the IAS Gurukul Tathastu, Officers IAS Academy, Forum IAS, Psyche World IAS, Sanchetna IAS, Prisha IAS, Path Academy and Drishti IAS.

In its latest sealing drive, the MCD took action against two coaching centre basements in Preet Vihar and Rajdhani Enclave: Sanskriti Academy and Pratham Institute, respectively. This follows the recent tragedy at Rau's IAS Study Circle in Rajinder Nagar, where flooding in the basement led to the death of three civil services aspirants on Saturday. Additionally, the MCD’s public health department deployed a team to Old Rajinder Nagar, inspecting 78 paying guest accommodations and 13 guest houses for mosquito breeding.

The MCD's drive was simultaneously carried out in Mukherjee Nagar and Rajinder Nagar, where, as of Monday night, 20 coaching centre basements were sealed for operating commercial activities. On Sunday alone, 13 such establishments were shut down in Rajinder Nagar, with an additional six sealed on Tuesday.
