Two men have been arrested after a woman alleged that she was gang-raped inside a sleeper private bus in Delhi’s Nangloi area, police said on Wednesday, May 14, according to the news agency IANS.
According to Delhi Police, the incident occurred on Monday night in the Rani Bagh area. A case was registered at Nangloi Police Station based on the victim’s complaint. The two accused, the bus driver and the conductor, were subsequently taken into custody. Police said the private bus allegedly used in the incident has also been seized as part of the investigation.
The survivor, a resident of a slum cluster in Pitampura, is employed at a factory in Mangolpuri, according to NDTV. On Monday night, May 11, when the victim was returning home from work, a sleeper bus stopped at the bus stop in Saraswati Vihar, according to IANS.
The woman reportedly approached a man standing at the bus door to ask for the time, after which she was allegedly forced inside the bus. The accused then drove the bus towards Nangloi, where the sexual assault allegedly took place. According to police, the woman is married and has three children.
Delhi Police said the matter is being investigated from all possible angles. Further details regarding the incident and the identities of the accused have not yet been disclosed. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
