Thane: Self-Styled Godman Arrested For Raping Minor on Pretext of House Cleansing Ritual in Kalyan

Another self-described godman has been under arrest for allegedly sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in the Thane region of Maharashtra. According to a PTI report, the "godman," Shahid Mohammad Wahid Shaikh, an Ambernath inhabitant, carried out the heinous deeds under the guise of carrying out rites to drive "evil spirits" from her home. Shaikh, 78, was taken into custody on Monday in relation to the assault that happened in the past week.

How Did "Self-Styled Godman" Trap the Mother of the Girl?
After her father and grandmother passed away a few months ago, the survivor moved in with her mother in Kalyan, according to the police. Shaikh, who knew the mother, allegedly persuaded them that an evil ghost was haunting their home. "Under the pretext of performing rituals to cleanse their house, the accused gained entry into their residence. On May 2 and May 6, taking advantage of the mother's absence, the accused allegedly molested and raped the teen," an official said.

Self-Styled Godman Booked, Arrested
The official further added that the accused has been charged under pertinent sections of the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He stated that Shaikh was arrested and brought before a local court, which ordered him to police detention until May 13. He said that an investigation is still in progress.
