Delhi: Police, MCD Demolish Over 30 Drug Peddling Spots In Baba Haridas Nagar Crackdown

Delhi Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on May 5 launched a major anti-narcotics demolition drive in Baba Haridas Nagar in the Najafgarh area as part of an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal encroachments linked to narcotics trade. The joint operation, carried out on May 5, targeted more than 30 platforms and structures allegedly being used as drug peddling points in the locality. Authorities said the action was aimed at dismantling infrastructure associated with habitual offenders and declared “bad characters” allegedly involved in narcotics-related activities in the area.

A heavy police presence was deployed during the operation to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident. Around 100 police personnel, including women officers, were stationed at the site along with staff from the Najafgarh zone and members of the civic body’s “Pela Panja” demolition teams. Officials used bulldozers and other machinery to raze illegal constructions identified during prior investigations. Authorities said the structures had allegedly become hubs for illegal drug-related activities and were marked for demolition following coordinated action between civic and police departments.

Baba Haridas Nagar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Baba Haridas Nagar Police Station in outer Delhi’s Najafgarh region, has frequently faced issues related to unauthorized constructions and criminal activities in the past. Officials stated that the latest operation specifically focused on encroachments and structures connected to narcotics trade rather than a general anti-encroachment or slum removal exercise. The locality has also previously made headlines over civic concerns such as flooding and infrastructure issues, but Tuesday’s drive was solely linked to anti-drug enforcement measures.

The demolition campaign forms part of Delhi’s broader strategy to curb narcotics trafficking by targeting properties and structures allegedly used for illegal drug trade. In recent years, Delhi Police and the MCD have conducted several similar joint drives across the capital to remove illegal constructions linked to traffickers and repeat offenders. Officials indicated that the operation in Baba Haridas Nagar was still underway at the time of reporting, and further action could follow based on ongoing assessments and investigations in the area.
