The coronavirus vaccination campaign started in the country from today. But even before the vaccination drive has begun a major development has taken place in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi. The resident doctor of the hospital has written a letter to the medical superintendent of the hospital demanding that the Covishield vaccine be given instead of the covacin vaccine.

Two vaccines Oxford Covid vaccine Covishield manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, and indigenously developed Covaxin by the Bharat Biotech will be administered to priority groups. So far, the Central government has procured 1.1 crore Covishield and 55 lakh Covaxin vaccines at a cost of Rs 200 and Rs 206 per dose, respectively.

Meanwhile, the hospital has not yet commented on the matter. According to a letter written by the doctor, resident doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital have demanded Covshield vaccine. "“We are not against the vaccine. I will tell everyone to take the vaccine, but I am not yet ready to take a vaccine for which the trials have not even been completed. A majority of us do not want to be guinea pigs. This is going to be the largest trial. Most of us have decided to wait, though we all gave our names,” the doctor said in the letter.
