Gujarat: 19-Year-Old College Student Dies by Suicide in Classroom in Gandhinagar, Exam Stress Suspected

Shivani Bhojabhai Ahir, a 19-year-old student residing at the girls’ hostel of J.M. Chaudhary College in Sector 7 of Gujarat's Gandhinagar, was found dead on the college premises on Wednesday evening, January 21.

According to local reports, Shivani, a native of Saniatar village in Radhanpur taluka of Patan district, was pursuing her first year of BA (FYBA). She was reported missing from the hostel on Tuesday evening, prompting the college administration and security staff to initiate a search. Her family was informed, and the Sector 7 police were alerted.

The search continued through the night, and Shivani’s body was later found hanging inside a classroom on the college campus at around 5 pm. Police immediately sent the body for post-mortem examination and began further investigation. CCTV footage, reportedly lasting four minutes and 38 seconds, has surfaced and is being examined as part of the probe.

"In Sector-7, Gandhinagar,  a student living in the girls’ hostel of J.M. Chaudhary College and studying in F.Y. B.A., committed suicide by hanging herself with a dupatta in her classroom," DYSP D.T. Gohil said.

Police sources said Shivani’s examinations were scheduled to begin shortly, and she was believed to be under significant academic stress. Investigators suspect exam-related pressure may have force her to take this step.
