Tamil Film Producer K Rajan Dies By Suicide In Chennai, Police Launch Investigation

Veteran Tamil film personality K Rajan was found dead in Chennai on Sunday in an alleged suicide case, sending shockwaves across the Tamil film industry. Police officials have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death. Preliminary reports stated that Rajan allegedly jumped from the Adyar bridge, though authorities are still verifying the details and awaiting further evidence. Members of the film fraternity expressed grief and disbelief after the tragic news emerged. Rajan is survived by his son, Prabhukanth, who is also associated with the entertainment industry through acting and filmmaking projects in Tamil cinema.

K Rajan had a long and diverse career in Tamil cinema, where he worked as a producer, writer, director and actor over several decades. He entered the film industry as a producer with the 1983 film Brammacharigal and later backed projects such as Doubles, Aval Paavam and Ninaikatha Naalillai. In 1991, he stepped into direction with Namma Ooru Mariamma, featuring Nizhalgal Ravi and Sarathkumar. He later directed Unarchigal in 2005 and also contributed as a story writer for films including Thangamana Thangachi and Unarchigal. His contributions earned him recognition as a versatile figure in the Tamil entertainment industry.

Apart from producing and directing films, K Rajan was also known for his performances in several Tamil movies. His acting credits include Michael Raj, Sonthakkaran, Veettoda Maapillai, Paambu Sattai, Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu and Selvaraghavan’s Bakasuran. Rajan was widely recognised for his outspoken views on the Tamil film industry and frequently made bold comments during public events and media interactions. His son, Prabhukanth, initially entered the industry as an actor before moving into filmmaking and directing RJ Balaji’s political satire LKG. Rajan’s sudden death has left colleagues, fans and members of the cinema fraternity deeply saddened and mourning his loss.
