Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: TMC’s Mahua Moitra Leads With 1,54,357 Votes, BJP’s Amrita Roy Trailing
Mahua Moitra of the All India Trinamool Congress is leading with 66,565 votes, holding a margin of 7,275 votes over Amrita Roy of the Bhartiya Janta Party who has garnered 59,290 votes.
Once a stronghold of the CPM, Krishnanagar constituency went to the BJP for only one term between 1999-2004. Since 2009, Krishnanagar emerged as a Trinamool turf with actor Tapas Pal representing it in the Lok Sabha.
An actor-turned-politician, Tapas Pal earned ignominy for one of his remarks but the constituency resurrected itself with new MP Mahua Moitra in 2019, whose first-ever speech in Parliament made headlines.
Out of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, 30 seats are contested as unreserved, while 10 seats are reserved for SC candidates and two seats are reserved for ST candidates. The BJP sprung a major surprise in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by winning 18 seats, a major improvement from the two seats it won in the 2014 elections. The TMC also won 18 seats in the previous elections, and the Congress won two seats.
