LPG Gas Cylinder Booking Only After 35 Days? Govt Issues Clarification

Several reports claimed that the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) has implemented new rules for booking LPG gas cylinders.  It was reported that changes aim to curb black marketing and ensure the timely delivery of gas to all consumers. Gas companies have introduced new booking rules, increasing the gap between cylinder bookings. Different timelines have been set for different categories of consumers.

New Cylinder Booking Rules As Follows:

Consumers with only one cylinder can book a refill only after 25 days.

Customers with two LPG cylinders will now have to wait 35 days before booking the next refill.

Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will have to wait 45 days for the next booking.

A time gap has also been set for smaller cylinders. For a 5 kg cylinder, the gap is between 9 and 16 days, while for a 10 kg cylinder, it is between 18 and 32 days. This period will be calculated from the date of delivery, not from the previous booking.

Meanwhile, according to the government and oil companies, these rules are aimed at better managing gas supply. They are expected to prevent black marketing and ensure timely distribution to genuine consumers. While the changes may pose some inconvenience, they are seen as necessary for maintaining a smooth and transparent supply system.

Government Denies the Above Claim

It has come to the notice of the Government that certain news reports and social media posts are claiming revised LPG refill booking timelines-45 days for PMUY connections, 25 days for non-PMUY single bottle connections, and 35 days for non-PMUY double bottle connections.

It is clarified that no such changes have been made. The existing refill booking timelines remain unchanged and continue to be:

25 days in urban areas, and 45 days in rural areas, irrespective of connection type. Narendra Modi-led govt asked LPG user "not to believe or circulate such misinformation and to avoid unnecessary or panic booking of LPG refills. It is reiterated that adequate LPG stocks are available in the country, and there is no cause for concern."
