A young female teacher in Maharashtra's Vardha region who was set on fire by a man who who had been stalking her for the past two years, died of injuries today early morning. The woman was going to her college when the accused set the girl on fire. According to reports, the deceased suffered 40 percent burn injuries and was termed critical by the doctors. She was being treated at a private hospital in Nagpur. "The patient was declared dead at 6:55am today. The probable cause of death was septicemic shock. Her body has been handed over to police authorities for post-mortem," Dr Anup Marar, Director, Orange City Hospital and  Research Center, said.

The accused Vikesh Nagrale was arrested immediately after the incident and the relatives of the girl revealed that she was harassed for quite sometime. "Nagrale is a married man and has a seven-month-old son. He works in a firm in Balharshah. He used to stalk the woman. He had even tried to commit suicide last year," a police official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. The locals from the area had taken out a march in Wardha last week demanding death penalty for the accused. Ujjwal Nikam was appointed as the special public prosecutor in the case by the Maharashtra government.
