It all started after the user posted a photo of a book which is divided into two. A Twitter user Alex Christofi wrote, "Yesterday my colleague called me a 'book murderer' because I cut long books in half to make them more portable. Does anyone else do this? Is it just me?

"I don't want your money so I will use this attention to say I am currently reading Middlesex and it is deeply brilliant if you are looking for a novel to read." he added.

His tweet went viral, leading to some hilarious jokes, memes and sarcasm on Twitter.

Replying to the post, a user wrote, "Yesterday my colleague called me 'a book murderer' because I like to keep little a taco in between the pages every few chapters, as a treat. Does anyone else do this? Is it just me?"

"Did it once many years ago when travelling with partner and only had one book between us. Still suffering from PTSD" wrote another.

A post read, "Glad you asked. I realised my error after I'd cut the book in half so I doubled down and made a separate booklet (not pictured) bound in a diagram of all the characters' relationships."

A Tweeple remarked, "I do this with my kids in order to make them fit in the station wagon."
