Mau Accident: 5 Killed After SUV Collides With Trailer on Varanasi–Gorakhpur Highway in UP
Five people were killed in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district in the early hours of Saturday, April 25. The accident took place around 3 am when a speeding Scorpio lost control on the highway, crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming trailer. A pet dog travelling in the vehicle also died in the crash.
The impact of the collision was severe, and all five occupants of the SUV died on the spot. Following the accident, local residents gathered at the scene. Police from Doharighat station reached the spot soon after receiving information and began rescue operations. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

According to officials, the victims were returning home after attending a wedding in Ranchi. The accident occurred on the Varanasi–Gorakhpur highway when the vehicle is believed to have gone out of control before hitting the trailer.

Those killed have been identified as Vinay Srivastava (53), his son Kritarth Srivastava (27), and his wife Archana Srivastava (48), all residents of Gorakhpur. The two drivers, Ravindra Yadav (20) from Gaya district in Bihar and Purushottam Kumar (28), also from Gaya, were among the deceased.
Police said the driver of the trailer fled the scene after the crash and is being searched for. Jitendra Singh said preliminary findings suggest the accident may have been caused by the driver of the SUV falling asleep at the wheel. Further investigation is underway.
