Mumbai, April 14 Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief leader Eknath Shinde has extended support to the proposed amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam during the special session of Parliament on April 16, saying that this historic step will pave the way for the effective implementation of women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures, proving to be a golden chapter in the journey of Indian democracy.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shinde stated that this initiative is not merely a legislative reform but a revolutionary transformation toward ensuring the decisive participation of women in governance and nation-building.

“It reflects your unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and women’s empowerment, which will further strengthen the foundation of our inclusive democracy. Under your leadership, the Government of India has taken several bold decisions to uplift women. Initiatives such as the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, Mission Shakti, and Poshan Abhiyaan have brought about comprehensive positive changes in the socio-economic lives of women, providing them with dignity, opportunity, and security,” Shinde said.

Furthermore, Shinde said that under PM Modi’s leadership, the country has achieved historic milestones, including the abolition of Article 370 for national integration and the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

“Your efforts to make national security impenetrable and to restore India’s prestige on the global stage are being appreciated everywhere. In today’s uncertain global landscape, your steady leadership provides India with self-confidence and a new direction,” he noted.

“On behalf of the people of Maharashtra, addressing you as the Beloved Brother of the Country (Desh ke Laadle Bhai), I offer best wishes on behalf of the state’s approximately six crore mothers, sisters, and daughters,” he added.

Shinde said in his letter to PM Modi that, inspired by him, the government in Maharashtra has brought the resolve for women’s empowerment to the ground level.

“We have operated several important schemes for the welfare of women, including the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, providing direct financial assistance to women from economically weaker sections. Transport concessions: a 50 per cent fare discount for women in state transport buses. Education and support: free higher education for girls and financial assistance of up to Rs 1,01,000 through the Lek Ladki Yojana. Socio-economic schemes: empowering women through initiatives like Lakhpati Didi and the Annapurna Yojana (providing three free gas cylinders annually),” Shinde said.

He further remarked that “The proposed amendment to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is a vital link in this series. As a committed constituent of the Shiv Sena and the National Democratic Alliance, I extend my full and unwavering support to this reform. We are fully dedicated to your vision of a strong, inclusive, and developed India. Once again, my heartfelt compliments for your continuous efforts in nation-building.”
